This bit of info makes me happy:

New York Magazine's Vulture section has learned that the co-creator/writer/director of HBO's FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS may take on the next MUPPET movie - which is being positioned as a franchise relaunch (not necessarily a reboot - just getting it back into shape as I understand it).
Vulture has learned that James Bobin, who co-created the critically praised, ratings-challenged, and now-defunct cable show, is being offered the director's chair today on Walt Disney Pictures’ next Muppet movie. A Disney insider tells Vulture that while no deal has been finalized, "the movie is James' to direct — if he wants it."

The original Muppet Show was envisioned by Jim Henson as an adult show that was suitable for kids, and Bobin's hiring is in keeping with that ethic
If this pans out (there's evidently a potential conflict with another project Bobin is orbiting), he'd direct from a script by FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL director Nicholas Stoller (who was, at one point, supposed to helm this new MUPPET film until scheduling conflicts arose for him as well).
Bobin was also a writer/director on Sacha Baron Cohen's DA ALI G SHOW.

I was reading an interview with Johnny Depp trying to glean any tidbits about the upcoming "Dark Shadows" remake when I came across mention of the new PotC move, called "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides".  On Stranger Tides is the title of a book by one of my favorite authors, Tim Powers, and it is set in the world of pirates in search of Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth.  I quickly Googled the title, Powers' and Depp's names and found this:

Author Tim Powers revealed that Disney bought the film rights to the 1988 pirate novel "On Stranger Tides", upon which the fourth film will be loosely based. Pirates writer, Terry Rossio, revealed that they will use elements from the novel, but the film will not be based on it.

In the film, Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Hector Barbossa go on an adventure to find the Fountain of Youth. Cast of the previous films, Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush, have signed on to reprise their roles respectively after wanting to return as their characters.  Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that Kevin McNally is reprising his role as Joshamee Gibbs.  Greg Ellis is set to reprise his role as Theodore Groves from The Curse of the Black Pearl and At World's End'.

Previous cast members Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have stated that they would not reprise their roles as they want to be involved in different movies, and that they thought the Will/Elizabeth story line had gone as far as it could. Mackenzie Crook has stated that he also doesn't want to return as Ragetti because he wants to spend more time with his family.

New cast members include Ian McShane, confirmed to play the notorious pirate and new nemesis Blackbeard, and Penélope Cruz, confirmed to play Angelica, Blackbeard's daughter and Sparrow's love interest in the film. Stephen Graham has been confirmed to play Scram, a Machiavellian pirate, and be the sidekick to Jack Sparrow. On April 14, 2010, French actress Astrid Bergès-Frisbey has been confirmed to play a mermaid named "Syrena".  Australian supermodel Gemma Ward has also been confirmed to be a mermaid on June 13, 2010. On April 16, 2010, Sam Claflin has been confirmed to play a missionary named "Philip".  Keith Richards is set to reprise his role as Captain Teague from At World's End, and he and Depp are trying to persuade Mick Jagger to appear as a pirate elder.

On May 17, 2010, Disney Studios Chairman Rich Ross has confirmed that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be shot and released in Disney Digital 3D. Filming is set to begin on June 2010 in Hawaii. The film is set to be released on May 20, 2011.

OMG.  Ian McShane and Johnny Depp in one movie may be more than my thudding heart can handle, but add mermaids, Keith Richards and possibly Mick Jagger...   Can you lick a movie?

MM, check out Maureen O'Hara's costumes in "Against All Flags".  She plays a pirate princess (daddy was a pirate king) named Spitfire.  Not all that revealing, but amazing for its time in the early 1950s

Thanks for the warning.  I was interested from the tiny snippets I've seen in the TV spots (maimed Josh Brolin made me do a double-take), but there are other movies I'd rather see first.  Maybe I'll wait until it airs on Starz or Encore.

I've been waiting for ages for the Eva Green movie Womb to come out -- during the very long wait, co-star Matt Smith became Doctor Who and I totally fell in love with him, which gave me yet another reason to pine for Womb.  It just premiered at an international film festival in Locarno, and my God, the reviews are terrible   Poor Eva and Matt!  It was definitely a freakish concept for a movie (woman loses true love in tragic accident and decides to clone and give birth to him), but freaky *can* be good...though it seems to have gone in a different direction in this case.

But I'm still dying to see it   EVA AND MATT IN THE SAME FRAME!!!!  Yeah, that'll do.

Everyone must see Scott Pilgrim. It is guaranteed to make you chuckle, and smile, and have warm fuzzies and supa-cold HELLS YAH moments. It might just be my new favorite movie ever.

Now that I've overhyped it, you'll probably be let down, because it won't end up curing tubercu-cancer-aids. But it's still a great flick. So I encourage and promote your attendance this weekend.
